Why a Logo costs more than £20

If you pay £20 for your logo, expect a logo that looks like it cost £20

In such a competitive market, there are few things you can take a chance with when starting a new business; your logo, the identity that represents your business and often the first thing potential clients will see is certainly not one of them.

It never ceases to amaze me that anyone will spend £20 on something so important, to then be surprised when the results are poor or blatantly taken from an existing design. The companies that provide this level of service, I’d venture almost exclusively based outside of the UK and trading off a .co.uk domain and ‘hot desk’ postal-only address, often even admit to spending only one hour on your design. It obviously takes a lot longer than that to create a unique and relevant logo design.

A professional designer will take the time to understand your business and what makes it unique, to research your market and competitors to ensure there are no design conflicts when producing the work, and then spend several days or weeks putting together appropriate concepts. To put this into context, how long did it take you to come up with your business name? Creating something unique, memorable, and then checking it wasn’t already registered and the domain was available: Days, weeks, months? It’s a similar process to producing a new logo or identity - now imagine if you’d gone with a name you came up with in the first hour? That’s what a £20 logo is... and why you won’t find any experienced professional will take a project on for £20.
